二、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,共30.0分) A Dear Sir / Madam, It worried me a lot when I heard of the plan to cut down St John’s Wood to make a car park for shoppers. Although I agree that the town is short of car parks, this idea would be improper. In the first place, the wood is an area of natural beauty. There are many ancient trees of an unusual kind. I often go there for a picnic or just to relax at weekends. The wood is, without doubt,a natural home for birds, animals and insects. If the trees were cut down, many species would be lost. Furthermore, the wood is right in the centre of a heavilypollutedpart of town. The treeshelp to make the air cleaner. The council (地方议会)says they are worried about global warming, yet they wish to cut down trees which help reduce the build-up of gases that lead to global warming because they feed on carbon dioxide. Besides, that area also suffers from high noise levels frompassing trucks and the railway line. The trees help reduce the noise levels and do a lot of good to the whole environment. In my opinion, cutting down the wood would be stupid and pointless. A car park may well attract shoppers to the town and increase the shopkeepers’ trade. However, a beautiful part of our town would be destroyed. I would be very interested in hearing what your other readers think. Yours faithfully, Roland Chang What has made Roland Chang feel worried A. ??That the town is short of car parks. B. That shoppers park their cars badly. C. ??That there are few parks in the town. D. Many young people, when they finish school at the age of 18, take a gap year before they go to university. Parents often want their children to grow up a little and see what the real world is like when they finish school. Although they are worried about their safety, many think that the advantages of independence and experience are worth the worries. Children are encouraged to be brave, independent and to explore the world on their own or with friends. Young people also want to experience freedom and see what life is like on the other side. This other side could be the other side of the world or just the other side of life. For example, if they have a rich life, they may want to see how people in poor areas live. A gap year after school is also an important chance for young people to spend time thinking about what they want to do with their lives. A little bit of growing up and experience will help them make their important career decisions, especially when they are unsure about what they want to study. Another reason for going straight after school is to get a break from studying before they start the next few years of university. So anywhere you travel in the world, you will meet young European people exploring the world. So much of the world has been travelled and explored. The young people are now looking for more worthy experiences. Some of them work as volunteers to do something for the country they are visiting. Many gap year volunteers are now spending a few months teaching English in Thailand, helping feed giant pandas in China or building a well(井) in a village in Africa. These young people’s wish to explore the world is an expression of the values of the societies that they are part of. Both discovering the world and making a positive difference in it are important parts of the Western mind. 28.Which is NOT a reason for young people to take a gap year? A. Young people want to take a break from studying. B. Young people want to be sure about what to study. C. Parents encourage them to be brave and independent. D. Parents encourage them to live a free and wealthy life. 29.Now a gap year volunteer might do something more valuable like . A. experiencing different cultures B. helping protect rainforests in Brazil C. making friends with more people D. enjoying traditional local food 30.By taking a gap year, young people may . A. stay with their parents all the time B. make money for their further study C. help change the world for the better D. change the Western mind completely 31.The purpose of writing this article is to . A. show different opinions about gap year B. offer readers information about gap year C. discover new ways to take a gap year D. tell young people when to take a gap year D Getting stuck in a traffic jam is one of the most boring problems for people living in big cities. The fact that you’re moving so slowly leads too stress, anger and the wish that your car could just fly over the traffic like an airplane.
    A
I grew up in a family that ate dinner together every evening. Although my parents enjoyed wine, they rarely drank during the week and always in moderation (节制). As for myself, I wasn’t interested in alcoholic drinks and neither were my high school friends.
So when I arrived on campus for my first year of university life, I was a bit shocked. Many different events had been organized for the freshmen, but they all had one thing in common — alcohol, and plenty of it. Not wanting to be left out, I joined a few of the events. But I always returned home early, feeling disappointed. Your personality, interests and experiences didn’t matter at all, only how many alcoholic drinks you could absorb before passing out (喝醉). It seemed shallow to me. I wanted to get to know my new coursemates, not how fast they could down a pint of beer.
Gradually, however, I realized that real friends don’t judge you by how much you can drink and there were other ways of making friends. I joined a photography society, took a first aid course, and every weekend I went cycling with a coursemate. I found that by engaging in these activities and sharing the fun of learning new skills together in a group, I formed much stronger bonds with my new friends than even the strongest alcoholic drinks could encourage.

She didn’t know she would meet her father, James, after 12-year separation. “I had actually discussed with her the night before at a restaurant and talked over the details of where we would go and how we would pull them of,” said Amanda, Rory Beth’s mother. A video shows Amanda led her blindfolded daughter out of their car and guided her across the parking lot of Broken Arrow Lanes in Broken Arrow. Little did she know, her father was on the sidewalk holding a birthday cake that read, “Happy Birthday Rory Beth, Love Dad.” When the teen slowly pulled down her blindfolds, she was extremely surprised. Both the father and daughter stood silently looking at each other until James finally walked over and hugged her. James only broke their embrace to look at his daughter and hold her face. “There were definitely lots of tears from James, myself, and boys, and even a few bystanders,” said Amanda. James was a truck driver who spent a lot of time on the road, so Amanda ended the marriage with him when Rory Beth was a baby. “It was hard to figure out how to make it work,” Amanda said. Amanda felt Rory Beth was now old enough to understand and to ask any questions she may have, so the reunion happened. The birthday surprise was on June 4, and the father and daughter had seen each other again since, even celebrating Father’s Day together. Amanda said her daughter and James were both delighted to be together. “She’s already calling him ‘daddy’ and tells him that she loves him.” Amanda said. 1. Why were Rory Beth’s eyes covered? A. Her eyes are sensitive to light. B. She was ready to receive a surprise. C. She was playing hide-and-seek. D. She just received an eye operation. 2. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The blindfolds. B. The teen’s eyes. C. Her birthday presents. D. The details of the party. 3. How did James react when he saw Beth? A. He laughed happily. B. He couldn’t believe his eye. C. He shouted and hugged his daughter. D. He couldn’t hold back his tears. 4. How was Rory Beth getting on with her father? A. She kept him at a distance. B. She couldn’t forgive him. C. She was happy to be with him. D. She felt it hard to accept him. B 2. A 3. D 4. 由第一段“The Oklahoma teen’s eyes were covered by two blindfolds (眼罩) . She didn’t know she would meet her father, James, after 12-year separation.” 第二段中的“I had actually discussed with her the night before at a restaurant and talked over the details of where we would go and how we would pull them off”提到,她的母亲前一天晚上和她讨论了如何将“它们”取下来。第四段中的“When the teen slowly pulled down her blindfolds”提到,Rory Beth慢慢地将眼罩摘了下来。 由第四段中的“There were definitely lots of tears from James, myself, and boys, and even a few bystanders”可知,James见到女儿时,哭了。 由最后一段中的“"She’s already calling him ‘daddy’ and tells him that she loves him," Amanda said. "They’re both very committed."” B BKLYN House Hotel There are works by Brooklyn artists in this hotel. The 116 rooms are of great value and Manhattan is only 20 minutes away by taxi or subway. My three children had been addicted to this cassette(磁带)on our previous summer road trips. As I began to prepare for our next 500-mile car trip, I came across a book—Jim Trelease’s—The Read Aloud Handbook. This could be the answer to my problem. I thought. So I put Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach into my bag. When I began to read aloud the tale of the boy who escapes the bad guys by hiding inside a giant peach, my three kids argued and fought with each other in their seats. But after several lines, they were attracted into the rhythm of the words and began to listen. We soon learned that the simple pleasure of listening to a well-written book makes the long miles pas more quickly. Sometimes reading became the most interesting part of the trip. I read Wilson Rawls’s Summer of the Monkeys as we spent two days driving to the beach. We arrived just behind the power crews restoring(恢复)electricity after a tropical storm. The rain continued most of the week, and the beach was covered with oil washed up by the storm. When we returned home, I asked my son what he liked about the trip. He answered without hesitation “The book you read in the car.” Road trips still offer challenges, even though my children now are teenagers. But we continue to read as we roll across the country. And I’m beginning to see tat reading aloud has done more than help pass the time. For at least a little while, we are not shut in our own electronic worlds. And maybe we've started something that will pass on to the next generation. 8. Why did the author start reading in the car? A. She wanted to have a better journey. B. She wanted to keep a family tradition C. Her children were addicted to reading. D. Her children were tired of the cassette. 9. How did the children react after the author read a few lines? A. They kept fighting. B. They hid themselves. C. They soon settled down. D. They read together aloud. 10. What can we learn about the author and her family’s trip to the beach? A. They were caught in a storm. B. They enjoyed reading on the road. C. They had a good time on the beach. D. They found reading boring. 11. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Better Traveling than Reading B. Books that Changed My Children C. Road Trips Full of Challenges D. Reading Makes Great Road Trips 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. My motivation for starting our family tradition of reading in the car was purely selfish: I could not bear listening to A Sesame Street Christmas for another 10 hours.得知作者忍受不了在旅途10小时中一直听芝麻街圣诞,所以为了使旅途更愉快,他开启了阅读的传统。故选A。 9. 事实细节题。根据But after several lines, they were attracted into the rhythm of the words and began to listen,得知作者在车里给孩子们读书,没读几行孩子们就安静了。故选C。 11. 主旨大意题。根据上下文得知本文讲述了作者原本开启家庭传统—“在车里阅读 “的动力完全是自私的,没想到它竟然使枯燥的旅程变得有趣享受。因此最佳标题是“阅读使旅途变得美好“。故选D。 D Driverless technology will soon enter another major global industry: shipping. Several companies recently announced plans to start self-sailing ships to improve safety and efficiency(效率). One of them is Norwegian chemical company Yara International. Yara has designed to build an autonomous ship expected to start next year. The ship is fully electric to reduce air pollution. It is designed to carry containers normally transported by truck. This means the ship will also improve road safety by replacing about 40,000 truck trips a year. Yara plans to operate the ships by remote control beginning sometime next year. By 2020, the ships should be loading and sailing themselves. Another company focusing on self-sailing ships is the world's largest mining company, Australia’s BHP Billiton. The company’s Vice President of Freight, Rashpal Bhatti, recently spoke about the technology. He said, “I believe automation(自动化)will be one of the biggest changes for shipping in the future.” Autonomous ships offer important chances to improve safety and provide better efficiency results to the marine supply chain. He added that self-sailing ships could become a reality within the next decade. Rolls-Royce, the British automobile and engine manufacturer, is also developing unmanned shipping technologies. Oskar Levander is the company’s head of marine operations. He told a conference last year, “This is happening. It’s not if, it’s when.” Several shipping companies have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to develop self-sailing ships expected to be used by 2025. These ships will be equipped with technology to collect weather and sea data. They will then use the data to plan out the safest, shortest and most fuel-efficient route. 12. Which one is the advantage of the driverless ship according to the passage? A. Environmental friendly. B. Without noise. C. Low cost. D. Having stronger ship body. 13. What can we learn from paragraph3? A. Australia’s BHP Billiton is the world’s largest ship company. B. The ships will work almost automatically by 2020. C. Bhatti isn’t sure of the future of driverless ship. D. Self-sailing ships will be used widely in a couple of years. 14. What attitude does Oskar Levander have to the new driverless ship? A. Unsure. B. Doubtful. C. Confident. D. Objective. 15. Where is probably the passage taken from? A. A physics textbook. B. A book review. C. An advertisement. D. A science report. 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. C 15. D 【解析】本文是一篇说明文,主要运用举例说明的方法,介绍了挪威、澳大利亚以及英国的劳斯莱斯等三家公司的具体实例,具体说明无人驾驶技术在海洋运输方面的使用及其优势所在。 12. 细节理解题。根据第二段第三句The ship is fully electric to reduce air pollution.可知无人驾驶的轮船最大的优势在于减少空气污染,所以环保是其最大的优势。故A项正确。 13. 细节理解题。根据第三段第二句By 2020, the ships should be loading and sailing themselves.可知到2020年,无人驾驶的轮船应该可以投入使用了。故B项正确。 14. 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段第三句He told a conference last year, “This is happening. It’s not if, it’s when.” China has been the birthplace of many of the world’s greatest inventions. It was, for example, the first country to produce paper money. Before the invention of paper money and coins, people used many different kinds of things for buying and selling. ____16____ This exchange of goods and services for other goods and services is called bartering(物物交换). ___17___ In 1200 BC, people in China began to use shells as money. Usually the shells used as money were very small. This made it easier for people to carry money over long distances, and allowed for trade to develop between different parts of the country. When it comes to square dance, it is universally acknowledged that it makes a tremendous difference to people’s life. For instance, not only .n dancing women promote the relationship with people but also it makes contribution to people’s health. However, dancing has some disadvantages despite its advantages. When dancing, the dancing women play loud music unconsciously, which gives to dissatisfaction. Personally speaking, I am definitely in favor of square dance. Meanwhile, I do hope the dancing women can try their best to regulate the volume of music. Only in this case can we create a harmonious community together. 也使用了高级句式,如最后一句“Only in this case can we create a harmonious community together.”使用了部分倒装句;第二段最后一句“When dancing, the dancing women play loud music unconsciously, which gives to dissatisfaction.”使用了分词做状语以及定语从句,这些句式的运用大大提高了本文的层次。
